It's not Haunt the val'kyr is using, it's Unholy Ascension. It will be castable in the undead round -- I just finished the WQ with it.

With the new pets out in BfA, you can bring in a Chitterspine Skitterling instead of Ikky. I doubt it'll make much of a difference, but Chitter takes less damage because it's aquatic, but gets a little boost to damage with critter attacks. - - (Honestly, I just love the skitterling, and want to use it in as many fights as possible, really. xD )
I think there might be a mistake in the script. When Spokes comes in, it does rip then shield instead of blood in water. I only did it 2 times, then did it manually. I don't know how to write the scripts yet, so please don't yell at me. Also, the Hermit crab worked well in the last slot to finish off, mine was S/S. (Don't get a random civet and have beast abilities instead of aquatic ones!)Haha
moonshell crab also worked for me. P/S

I have a P/B Blighted Squirrel and it failed 2x in a row, same place so I came here to check. Tried one more time and it worked. Not sure, must be weird rng.. I have 5 wins 2 losses recorded with this team so far.

This also worked well for me!
My iron starlette (tried PB and PS breeds) failed to pull off the cast of the second wind up until the 4th or 5th attempt; Trixy kept killing it; but once I was able to finish the wind up, it was smooth sailing, with MPD finishing everything up, didn't even need to use the yeti again. Not sure if the wind up fails were my fault or if there is a RNG issue with Trixy and iron starlette.
Excellent! I used two SS breed Chitterline skitterlings and my Plump Jelly finished off Nightmare Sprout in one Squeeze. Thanks!
Samesies- Thanks Marzen!

PET NEWS - BY DRAGONSAFTERDARK
2020-08-02 03:51:22
Hello, everyone!

As you all know, the Shadowlands Beta is in full swing since getting the character copies this past week. With those copies, beta testers also gained access to some of their roster, which means they can now test the pet battle changes!

Here's what Xu-Fu's staff will be doing in the coming weeks to help soften the blow to how many strats will be effected by said changes:

1. Shadowlands Tag

A Shadowlands tag has been added to the site, and will be used in TWO phases:

Phase One -- Beta: During the beta, staff will be testing as many strategies as they can. If you see a Shadowlands tag on a strategy before the changes go to live servers, this means the strategy has been tested by a staff member and it will see NO IMPACT from the Shadowlands changes.

Phase Two -- Live: Once these changes go to live servers, ALL strategies impacted will receive the Shadowlands tag.

Phase Two Part Two -- Live: If a strategy received a Shadowlands tag before the changes are live and will not be impacted, once Shadowlands does go live those tags will be removed.

2. Suggestions for Changes

If a strat needs some kind of change to work once the Shadowlands changes go into effect, and a staff member was able to test the strat, you'll likely see a comment from us on our experience, and what we changed to help make the strat usable again.

Please keep in mind: there are only so many of us here, and thousands of strategies that will be impacted. We will not be able to get to them all before the changes go live, but we'll do our best to prioritize those we feel will have the highest impact first, like dungeons.

3. What You Can Do

If you have beta access, we encourage strategy creators to test their strategies. Some of the adjustments can be made pre-Shadowlands changes, and it won't impact the strat on current live servers. Other adjustments will need to wait for the Shadowlands changes to go live to work properly.

Once you've tested, let us know in the info section of your strategy by putting something like: Shadowlands tested. This way, staff can move on to test other strats.

That's all for now! We're doing our best to make this transition as smooth as possible, and we thank you all for your patience and understanding as we work through these changes.

Happy battling!

PAGE UPDATE - BY ARANESH

Time for another bigger update here!

Among the most beloved features of Xu-Fu's were the Legion Ready-Checker and the Celestial Tournament Planner. Both sadly had to go away when we added user created strategies and support for breeds.
Not anymore! Time to bring those features back, and add some things on top :D

Happy to announce the return of Ready-Check Tables!

You'll find them on every section of Xu-Fu, including family achievements, dungeons, and - of course - the Celestial Tournament. They offer different options depending on where you are, check it out!

I highly recommend using them with an account and after importing your collection. The tool will then be able to pick the most suited strategies for you - and will make sure to use pets only once when going through hardmode dungeons.

And the cherry on top, the crown jewel of convenience: Rematch Mass Export! Here's a quick vid of how that works:

PET NEWS - BY DRAGONSAFTERDARK

From Kaivax
Hello pet battlers!

In Shadowlands, there are some core changes to Pet Battles, and while there are many pet battle updates now available for testing, we have quite a bit more coming.

First, we have no plans to make a new pet charm currency this expansion. Polished Pet Charms will remain the standard currency to buy new pets, toys, consumables, and all of the other normally-available vendor purchases.

There are several items that are coming along for testing in this week’s build (and the next few builds) of the Shadowlands Beta:

~~ New content! There will be plenty of new battle pets to capture, trainers to battle, achievements, and pets that will be rewarded from various activities.

~~ New Abilities! With Shadowlands and all of the strong covenant themes, we have some plans for new abilities and mechanics to add to some of the new pets. Some may be small changes to numbers, and other changes may be big and open up new strategies or synergies.

~~ Buffs! The list below of changes made to old abilities are all nerfs to existing things that have become too dominant. We also feel like there’s room to make some cool new ability combos, or redesign something that hasn’t worked so well, or buff things that are rarely used. This can be anything from some new ability mechanics, up to and potentially including redesigning or increasing the power of a species’ passive bonuses if necessary.

Previously-announced changes that are now testable in the Beta:

~~ Black Claw and other flat damage taken increasing abilities.

~~ Hunting Party, Flock, and other similar multi-round abilities.

~~ The Shattered Defenses debuff from abilities such as Hunting Party and Flock.

~~ Twilight Meteorite and other long-cooldown damage-splitting abilities.

~~ The Jar of Smelly Liquid ability.

Let’s break down what actually changed to these, as some of them are complicated.

Flat damage-taken modifiers such as Black Claw now happen **after multipliers such as Shattered Defenses, or pet species strengths/weaknesses. This is a significant change to the value of flat damage abilities. Prior to this change, the value of Black Claw was increased 100% by Shattered Defenses, and if your pet was strong vs the other pet type, it would be increased even further. Flat damage modifiers now happen after all other combat calculations, which wound up being a significant damage output nerf to abilities that hit multiple times, upwards of 25-30% total damage reduction.

Hunting Party and Flock style abilities are significantly changed. First, the Shattered Defenses debuff was reduced in power from 100% to 50%. The goal of this debuff change is mostly to keep the damage of Hunting Party and Flock mostly contained within the damage the ability itself deals. Layering on other Damage over Time effects, or Curse of Doom, or similar delayed-damage sources were all getting a huge benefit from the Shattered Defenses debuff. We think that a 50% damage increase is still strong enough, but less drastic of a damage swing compared to not having Shattered Defenses at all.

The second change we made to these multi-round abilities was to increase the amount of damage they deal to offset some of the changes listed above. Abilities that dealt damage twice per round, such as Hunting Party, had their total damage dealt increased by 25%. Abilities such as Flock that did damage three times per round had their damage increased round-over-round, so to get the maximum damage output, you needed your pet to survive and still be dealing damage on the third round of the ability. Round two of Flock for example, ignoring any debuffs or multipliers, will deal 66% more damage than round one. Round three of Flock will deal 133% more damage than round 1 of Flock. The net result of all of the changes to flat damage modifiers, the Shattered Defenses debuff, and the buffs to Hunting Party or Flock style abilities is that they deal roughly 20% less damage in Shadowlands than they did previously.

Twilight Meteorite and other big damage abilities that split the damage across the team are relatively balanced when fighting multiple opponents, but if you save it until defeating 2/3 of the enemy’s team, the damage output can be devastating, especially when combined with other buffs/debuffs. We reduced the damage on these abilities by 10%, and believe that will make them strong, but less frustrating to play against.

The Jar of Smelly Liquid ability had its cooldown increased one round. This ability has been on our radar of being annoying to play against, and the strength of the ability combined with a speed and damage dealt debuff on the target felt too strong for a cooldown of only one round.

A couple of other changes in Shadowlands:

~~ Murkalot’s Righteous Inspiration ability has been on the forefront of PvP strategies for a while, and is very strong, and unique to only this pet. The current change we have in Shadowlands is that the ability starts on cooldown when the pet battle begins, so you will have to wait 8 rounds to be able to use it against your opponent.

~~ Almost all healing abilities have had a small variance applied to them of +/- 10% when you use it. Healing Wave might say it heals your target for 100, but actually heal for between 90 and 110. This also applied to some healing abilities like Siphon Life, where it should heal for a fixed amount based on damage dealt, but still had a variance applied on it. All healing abilities have been tuned so that having any variation in the healing amount makes sense, and we’ve removed the variance if it did not.

~~ Finally, we’re considering the viability of older pet battle content after these changes. Some of the changes we’re making could make older battles or achievements much too difficult to complete. We really like how it feels to have so much pet battle content accessible to players who are at all points on the pet battle journey, whether they’re just getting started or have hundreds of max-level pets.

In Shadowlands, we still expect pet battlers to be able to complete older content with a current slate of battle pets, so we’re looking forward to your feedback. We’re confident that we can adjust tuning where necessary.

Thank you!

This post goes more in-depth on some of the changes mentioned in November, which can be found here.

My personal experience with the Shattered Defenses / Black Claw changes boils down to these two observations:

1 -- If the strategy experienced any kind of overkill with fight, chances are it'll be just fine. You might need to do one or two more moves to finish the enemy off, or use a third pet if a strat was previously a two-pet strat.

2 -- If the strategy worked by the skin of its teeth, there will likely be issues. It'll either break the strat, or it'll need some work to get it in-line with the new changes. The biggest concern at the moment will be some of the Tanaan Jungle, Argus, & BRD fights.

But what say you, pet community? Have you had a chance to test the changes? How do you feel about them, even if you haven't?

With new pets and updates coming out each week, or every other, this is where we'll be compiling that information!

This is in an effort to keep all the pet information in a single place, instead of stretched out across multiple articles, due to the fact that we have a few months, and likely many updates, ahead of us until Shadowlands releases.

With that, let's get to it!

As always:

Update 17 July: New tamer NPC & Hazelnutty interview with John Hight (PvP Pet Power & Pet Dungeons)

Update 22 July: New enemy NPCs & Pets, Pet battle WQs, Ability change news from Blizzard, Various pet name & flavor text updates

Update 29 July: New pets, Change to Addius, & Various pet updates

1. There will be NO Currency changes in Shadowlands

First, we have no plans to make a new pet charm currency this expansion. Polished Pet Charms will remain the standard currency to buy new pets, toys, consumables, and all of the other normally-available vendor purchases.

2. Scaling Active on the Beta

Scaling for pet battles is currently active on the beta, so it looks like a feature that will continue into Shadowlands.

3. What the Future Holds for Pet Battles in Shadowlands

3.1 From Kaivax on 16 November 19:

What the Future Holds

In a future update, we’re targeting a number of balance changes we want to make, which will amount to lowering the effectiveness of some pets and strategies. Again, these changes will not be happening in Visions of N’Zoth, but we wanted to give you ample warning time that changes are coming. While we don’t have specific numbers or details to share right now, here are some examples of abilities that we’re going to take a close look at:

 • Black Claw and similar abilities that increase damage taken by a flat amount.
 • Hunting Party and similar abilities such as Flock.
 • The Shattered Defenses debuff effect from abilities such as Hunting Party or Flock.
 • Any large percent-damage-taken or percent-damage-dealt buffs or debuffs.
 • Twilight Meteorite and similar long-cooldown damage-splitting abilities.
 • The Jar of Smelly Liquid ability.
 • Hermit Crab

Of course that last one isn’t an ability, but Hermit Crab incorrectly has a higher stat budget than it should, and it will have its stats reduced to bring it in line with other similar pets.

A goal we have when making many new pet battle World Quests or encounters is to create puzzles that players can counter and “solve”-- ideally with the option to use a variety of pets and tools to do so. When a few pets have such strong synergies that they can deal massive damage in just a few rounds and almost trivially beat these enemies, it becomes problematic. Do we make new challenges only beatable by the highest damage combos, or do we make them generally solveable and therefore immediately smashed by massive damage?

We don’t want to ruin the feel of combination abilities, so we aren’t going to make Black Claw no longer interact with Hunting Party or Flock, but we want to make sure these abilities are dealing appropriate damage. And we want to make sure that secondary effects such as Shattered Defenses are being accounted for with regards to balance.

When we have further specifics, we will be sure to let you know.

In addition to the post above, Kaivax also responded to concerns regarding old content, and the potential ability nerfs:
19 November 19: We’ll do our best to make sure older Achievements are still able to be completed after the changes, even if that means we need to change some of the Tanaan Jungle, Argus, and Battle for Azeroth pet battle challenges to make them somewhat easier.

I think it’s also worth noting that the sample future changes I listed in the OP were the most-impactful examples we’ve thought of. I’m sure we’ll also take this opportunity to find pets/abilities/combos that we can buff at the same time.

3.2 From Kaivax, 22 July 20:

An updated post from Blizzard can be found on our site here.

3.3 What Xu-Fu's is Doing in Response to These Changes

At the moment, we're working on a banner-type notification to let people know when a strategy might be impacted by the Shadowlands changes. This is a work-in-progress mock-up.

3.4 Pet Battle Dungeons on Hold & Pet Battle PvP Power

In Hazelnutty's interview with John Hight, she asked about the future of pet battle dungeons, given the conclusion to the storyline we experienced in BRD. Here was his response:
[Pet battle] dungeons are a lot of fun, I'm also a pet collector. We have a group of players that really are into it, but it hasn't had as much broad appeal as some of the other features of the game. So, I think we're kind of taking a pass to see what's the reception like, [and] if we get a lot of demand for pet battle dungeons [it's something] we'll look at later in the expansion. But nothing new for the release of Shadowlands.

Also in Hazel's interview, she asked about the pet battle pvp power, and if there was anything he could tell us about it. John Hight responded; "No, I'm sorry."

Hazelnutty's full interview can be found here, with the pet battle portion happening at timestamp 15:23.

3.5 A Look at the Numbers: Flock & Black Claw

Our article detailing what the numbers for Flock-type abilities and Black Claw will look like can be found here.

The tooltip changes you'll see in game can be found here.

Oonar's Arm

 • Source/Location: The only information we have comes from a comment by Isine on the wowhead forums;

Oonar's Arm is attached to a sword named Sorrowbane in the south-east corner of the Theater of Pain in Maldraxxus. You can interact with both the sword and the arm, and you fall over and get the message, 'You lack the strength to move it.'

If you go buy the Potion of Unusual Strength from L'arrynar, who is located to the east of the Theater of Pain on the outside, you then receive different messages from both the arm and the sword: 'You need greater strength to succeed.' from the sword, and 'You brace and pull, but are still too weak.' from the arm.

I haven't yet found any other buffs that effect this.

 • Second discovery from Lazey:

Edible Redcap affects the text messages in exactly the same way Potion of Unusual Strength does.

Combining both of them leads to another text message, either pulling Sword or Arm result in "You have a strong grip, but it did not move."
